THE OLD AND RESTLESS SEAL HUNTER

The story of the seal hunter whose name was in Eskimo “the person who tries to do useful things but rarely succeeds thanks Gods he is very stubborn” – Per in short- yes, this story seemed to come to an end when he came to a certain age and had to be retired. This was the end for him; however it is a historical fact that Per has converted this end in a kind of new beginning even more beginnings.

In the Eskimo language and traditional social practice. to retire is an imperative verb, very imperative. It is well known that the Eskimo retirement best practice is the model (slightly hidden model) for many other countries. It is based on senilicide and this seems to be cruel, however the Eskimos have always lived with very few resources, for them the Deep Crisis (toward which we all are marching now like cattle to the slaughterhouse) was the normal state of affairs. They have 86 words for snow and 111 words for austerity!
The old people were aware of their uselessness and have not protested much- senilicide was kind of assisted suicide. Please, before condemning this in the name of moral principles, accept that it is not as bad as the eternal and ubiquitous wars, wars being mainly juventicides.

OK one day Per the expert seal hunter who was not a relative of the tribal chief and the shaman did not liked him at all when he arrived to the fatal age- he was immediately retired. Only the very naïve don’t know that privileges are much more important than the rights.
The stubborn old seal hunter when put in an obsolete boat and sent to the endless ice - Cold Ocean to starve and disappear has used a lot of tricks and has survived. What’s more, he succeeded to arrive to a whaler ship and, became a whale hunter.

In October 1999 I have received my first monthly pension, a bit less then 100 $. The perspective was dim to live in very modest conditions and to be scared to death by any damned bill- for
heat, power, phone, other expenses- to be a pariah, a poor man in a rich country. From 2000 to 2010 I had main job- journalism plus secondary jobs and have practiced diverse forms of consultancy. I learned web-search and have succeeded to steadily improve my financial situation. The times have also improved- till 2007-2008…

The former seal hunter has enjoyed his new profession and has
been noticed in the board journal with 437 whales. The captain
of the whaler having a peculiar idea about effectiveness and efficiency has changed the whale killing methods and our old hunter had to leave the ship. But he was rich enough to buy his own boat and now he still navigates.
What’s more and it is a miracle- Per has joined the fleet of the hunters who know (as he also had known for many years): that Melville’s Moby Dick does not exist however there is a
World’s Most Elusive Whale and this will be found and hunted soon, very soon. And this will be a Great Day; the old hunter hopes to be still alive then.
Are they seals or whales in the Styx and the other 5 or 6 rivers of a personal Hades?

Peter

P.S. I have a special relationship with metaphors; I hate them actually (because they are so easily abused) but I am using them excessively. In this metaphor CV story above- seals and whales are problems.

The Mother of Radames

Mottos
Conquer, but don't triumph. (Marie von Ebner-Eschenbach)

The important thing in life is not to triumph but to compete.
Pierre de Coubertin

A dream will always triumph over reality, once it is given the chance. (Stanislaw Lem)

You will win, but please do not forget that triumph management
is not a bit easier than disaster management (Peter Gluck – to Defkalion Green Energies)

THE MOTHER OF RADAMES
This is an old story from perhaps more than 3000 years ago,
sufficiently powerful to inspire a successful opera. It is about the fatal errors of a military man who was skilled on the battlefield but made the worst choices. Recently, a group of Egyptian archeologists has discovered a papyrus- the letter in which the mother of that man tries to convince her son to become rational and pragmatic and to NOT do those stupid things described in the scenario of the opera written by French Egyptologists. I hope the mother won.

My dear son,
It is so painful for a mother to see her beloved son stubbornly trying to destroy himself. I well remember you were by far not the smartest of my children, reading and math were not made for you and therefore we have decided that you will follow a career in the military. I hope you realize that this was not cheap. We cannot get our money spent with your education back but at least it should have not have been in vain!
Your insatiable triumph-thirstiness and your irresistible attraction
toward the enemy’s daughter is the deadliest, most idiotic self-destructive combination possible. The most devilish imagination couldn’t build a more horrific trap for you.
Your great luck and chance is that I, your Mamma was blessed or cursed by the Gods to see the future; I even know this aptitude will be called clairvoyance some millennia later. I will tell you what will happen to you- very bad things, but you still can choose an alternative way and be intelligent and happy.
First, you are completely mesmerized by that Ethiopian girl-
you are too young to realize that the differences between human females are highly exaggerated. Your love for Aida is the triumph of imagination over intelligence.
I don’t know what should I do, weep or ROFL, I have clearly heard you calling her:”Heavenly Aida, divine form”. Are you nuts? She is a well fed strong woman, if she sits on a coconut she breaks it and she is happy that the bathroom scale was not yet invented. Perhaps only the troubadours will call a Lady; “mystical garland of light and flowers, queen of my thoughts, splendor of my life- these are metaphors but you take them seriously. It is a limit to everything, est modus in rebus –as will say some people who will conquer our poor country in the future. Testosterone has blocked your mind, please try to awake, open your eyes and look at Miss Aida with objectivity and realism and escape from her spell and sexual spider web. Get drunk, seduce her or not but help her to go home to her Daddy, balmy forests, verdant valleys, and golden temples
Be wise my son, not Aida, Amneris is the girl for you! Amnneris has an IQ higher with 15 points than Aida and comes from a much better family. And look how much swifter she moves than the Ethiopian girl. Is it so bad to you to be the next Pharaoh? Good job, a lot of annoying ceremonies but you are considered a God (God knows why).
Amneris is a nice girl ready to play Amnesis and forget completely your nasty mad adventure with Aida.
I seriously warn you if you insist stupidly in your passion, you will be named the commander of the army, you will defeat the Ethiopians (they are an undisciplined gang) you will get your portion of triumph but then comes the disaster. Aida’s father the king will deceive you, his daughter will convince you to disclose vital State secrets, the clerical police will get you and the great jury of priests will say you are a bloody traitor and …death!
Isn’t better to live happily with Amneris, my dear Rady?

I also ask you with all my heart to NOT seek triumph!
Many years from now, a fine writer will say in his poem:

“If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same”

Triumph is volatile and ephemeral, those who adore you today will get you lynched tomorrow. Triumph is only a trap put by the moment for duration.
Please do not be impressed by that:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1_NRazjCiG4
It is only smoke and spectacle; you will get ten times more envy than glory. The priests will hate you and they are dangerous!
So Radames, stop saying:
If only I were that warrior!
If only my dream might come true!
An army of brave men with me as their leader
And victory and the applause of all Memphis!
And do not wish to return crowned with laurels, laurel is an edible plant at it is a pity to waste it on vanities that don’t last.
Let your rival, Ardames win! After thousands of wars and years from now nobody will remember exactly the name.
Marry Amneris, be happy! A saying will come once: “primo, vivere, dopo trionfare!”
P.S. Radames’ mother has forgotten to mention the once very successful triumph song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mg4ojRlBJoo
Triumph, catastrophes, crimes, decay, oblivion, 45 poisoned years from my life….perhaps she was a rather myopic clairvoyante.
…………….
I have (re) invented Triumph Management in the 70-ties when we had to analyze many projects and feasibility studies for the OLTCHIM works. Our best best practice method become using for the first phase the supposition:

- if everything goes perfectly, with no problems and no obstacles, if it will be a true, complete Triumph…then what?

In many cases this was the last phase, we have discovered that even in the optimal case the best is to forget the idea.

Then we have discovered that everything that seems to be or claims to be perfect.
Outside Art, triumph and perfection are poisoned words- poisoned as the cathodes in the Pd-D cells.
It is much discussion bout the best cold fusion LENR theory these days on CMNS. Much more parallel monologs that real dialogues and confrontation of facts but constructive and polite.
If, suppose- one theory wins, triumphs…what then?
What will happen in our field during the next months? Probably LENR will fight with its chronic problems using disaster management while LENR+ will not appeal to triumph management just making remarkable progress- already in commercial applications. Let’s see!

17-th translation of my Problem Solving Rules: In Danish!

Professor DIETER BRITZ from the Aarhus University has helped me again.
He has demonstrated his friendship and generosity from the first years of
the Cold Fusion history when he has sent me regularly his excellent  CF Bibliography
first printed than on disks by snail-mail. A rule- not of problem solving: people who
were nice before the Internet are nice now too.

REGLER FOR PROBLEMLØSNING

Motto:
Jeg tænker, jeg eksisterer. Jeg beslutter at leve. Jeg løser problemer, jeg
lever med et formål.

afgørende faktor i mange tilfælde.

16-TH TRANSLATION OF MY PROBLEM SOLVING RULES IN SLOVAK!

My gratitude to Dusan Matulay who has answered fast to the appeal of our generous
friend, Gabriela Cretu the most wise and honest politician and author of books on
social subject I ever met. Thank you, Dusan! Thank you Gabi!

Zásady riešenia problémov – medzinárodne

Motto: „Myslím, teda existujem/som. Rozhodujem (sa), teda žijem. Riešim problémy, teda žijem zmysluplne.“

1.       Neexistujú izolované problémy, vždy prichádzajú v dynamických súboroch/zväzkoch.

2.       Neexistujú definitívne riešenia pre naozaj veľké problémy, tieto musia byť riešené znova a znova.

15-th Translation of my Rules- in Chinese!

A wonderful present from the great friend of this blog, Do Miracles: 1 billion+ potential readers!
Chinese readers, welcome! I admire you!

“ I think, I exist. I decide I live. I solve problems, I live with a purpose.“我思考,我生存。

5. NOT what we know, but what we don’t know is more important for solving the problem.

7. NOT all problems have a complete, genuine solution.

8 .NOT the solutions that seem perfect from the start, but those which are very perfectible are the best in many cases.

9. NOT the bright, shiny, spectacular solutions but those elaborated, worked out with difficulty and effort and patience are more valuable and have a larger area of applicability.

difficult problems.

13. NOT our own problems, but the problems of other people are usually more boldly and creatively solved by us

16- NOT the very careful perfect planning, but the smart assuming of risks and firm decision taking are the practical keys to successful problem
solving.

19.不要停留在第一个解决方案上,寻求替代方案。然而,对于那些真正高级的问题解决者,这是一个超级规则,对每一位人都非常重要;

PROBLEM SOLVING RULES –INTERNATIONAL
by Peter Gluck

Motto:

“ I think, I exist. I decide I live. I solve problems, I live with a purpose.”

1. There are NO isolated problems, they always come in dynamic bunches

2. There are NO final solutions for the really great problems, these have to be solved again and again.

3. NOT solving the problem, but defining it is the critical step.

4. NOT the unknown data, but those known and untrue are the greatest obstacle to the solution.

5. .NOT what we know, but what we don’t know is more important for solving the problem.

6. NOT the main desired positive effect, but those secondary negative and/or undesired effects decide in most cases if a solution is implemented.

7. NOT all problems have a complete, genuine solution.

8. NOT the solutions that seem perfect from the start, but those which are very perfectible are the best in many cases.

9.  NOT the bright, shiny, spectacular solutions but those elaborated, worked out with difficulty and effort and patience are more valuable and have a larger area of applicability.

10. NOT the solutions that are logical and perfectly rational, but those that are adequate for the feelings of the potential users, even if they are illogical, have the greatest chances of fast implementation.

11. NOT the quality of the solution but the speed of its implementation is the decisive factor in many cases. It can be better to have a partial solution applied fast than a slower almost perfect solution.

12. NOT always long hours of hard work and great efforts, but (sometimes) relaxation and fun is the best way to obtain solutions for (awfully) difficult problems.

13. NOT our own problems, but the problems of other people are usually more boldly and creatively solved by us

14. NOT the solutions worked out by us, but those borrowed. bought or stolen from others are more easily accepted and implemented.

15. NOT the enhancement of human strengths but the limitation of human weaknesses is more useful for efficient problem solving

16. NOT the very careful perfect planning, but the smart assuming of risks and firm decision taking are the practical keys to successful problem solving.

17. NOT always the existent, real problems, but many times the fictive, imaginary ones are the most difficult to be solved.

18. Do NOT accept the premises of the problem, change them as necessary and possible.

19. Do NOT stop at the first solution, seek for alternatives.

However, for the really advanced problem solvers, there is a SUPER RULE- the most important of all;

20. NOT the wise application of these rules but the finding of the specific exceptions to these, is the real high art of problem solving.

14-th translation of my Rules- in Malay language!

My friend Do Miracles - is doing miracles; this is not a tautology,
it is his routine, everyday job. Thank you again!

Malay Language Translation

"Saya berfikir, saya wujud. Saya memutusan saya hidup .

13-th translation of my Rules- in Tagalog!

Provided with generosity by my new friend whose name "Do Miracles"
is very realistic and adequately describes his activity.

I think, I exist. I decide I live. I solve problems, I live with a purpose.”

ako'y nag iisip, akoy nandirito, akoy nag dedecisyon, akoy nabubuhay, akoy lumulutas ng problema, akoy nabubuhay na may layunin.

1. There are NO isolated problems, they always come in dynamic bunches

walang watak-watak o iisang problema, lagi silang dumarating na bungkos-bungkos

2. There are NO final solutions for the really great problems, these have to be solved again and again.

3. NOT solving the problem, but defining it is the critical step .

4. NOT the unknown data, but those known and untrue are the greatest obstacle to ths solution.

5. .NOT what we know, but what we don’t know is more important for solving the problem.

6. NOT the main desired positive effect, but those secondary negative and/or undesired effects decide in most cases if a solution is implemented.

7. NOT all problems have a complete, genuine solution.

8 .NOT the solutions that seem perfect from the start, but those which are very perfectible are the best in many cases.

9. NOT the bright, shiny, spectacular solutions but those elaborated, worked out with difficulty and effort and patience are more valuable and have a larger area of applicability.

10.NOT the solutions that are logical and perfectly rational, but those that are adequate for the feelings of the potential users, even if they are ilogical, have the greatest chances of fast implementation.

11. NOT the quality of the solution but the speed of its implementaion is the decisive factor in many cases. It can be better to have a partial
solution applied fast than a slower almost perfect solution.

12. NOT always long hours of hard work and great efforts, but (sometimes) relaxation and fun is the best way to obtain solutions for (awfully) difficult problems.

13. NOT our own problems, but the problems of other people are usually more boldly and creatively solved by us

14 NOT the solutions worked out by us, but those borrowed. bought or stolen from others are more easily accepted and implemented.

15 NOT the enhancement of human strengths but the limitation
of human weaknesses is more useful for efficient problem solving

16- NOT the very careful perfect planning, but the smart assuming of risks and firm decision taking are the practical keys to successful problem
solving.
