a) An example of a problem for the Global Network of LENR MetaManagement

"There is value in re-examining Abd's core remarks as to why researchers such as himself, prefer to investigate PdD vs NiH. Abd says convincingly (IMHO the evidence backs him up) that PdD research is completely open and shared plus more advanced and for these reasons more than any other he pursues PdD research.

On the other hand, NiH research is shrouded in deception (hiding real replication details from patents and publications), is also victim of patent warfare (Piantelli vs Rossi vs the world), so appears to be being 'milked' by greed and obfuscation (Some point to Rossi's antics and verbal contradictions as plain evidence).

A 'probability' that can be drawn from the above PdD vs NiH conflict is the reason for the latter's problems are because it is the one that really has scale-ability potential and thus is the more likely path to wealth & political power creation which in turn is why there is so much patent activity and why so many are fascinated by Andrea Rossi's on going circus.

We have a four way battle here. Critics of LENR's claims in one corner, Pro PdD in another, Pro NiH in another and stuck in the 4th corner is an increasingly angry world wanting answers from the other three as to when the question of LENR viability and likely progress will be decided.

The observers in the 4th corner know they don't have the knowledge or expertise to resolve the matter and most are intensely frustrated at the lack of progress by the other 3 in an era when energy generated from fossil fuels, and its side effects, are a critical global issue affecting the future of humanity. 

Some of the critics of LENR appear happy to kill the idea of LENR off as effectively as they can. Some others of us believe there is a strong malicious intent there. The PdD and NiH camps are split over who is genuinely interested in research vs who is being greedy and plainly seeking power and profit.

Underpinning it all is the apparent inability of anyone in the 4 camps to resolve their case.

Thanks dear Doug- this is a central problem of the field, one of its cause is that the way to commercialization of LENR was found by an outsider - not  a member of theof the Cold Fusion/LENR community. We can discuss why this happened so.

 To add to this:
- the synchronicity of the weaknesses of NiH shown here- with the suggestions re NiH in paper No 3) below:
- what Ed Storms says- and he is right!-about the virtues and achievement of PdD

The electrolytic approach has shown that helium is the source of energy when deuterium is used. It also showed tritium can be made in the surface region where the helium forms.  The electrolytic method shows that the effect  can be initiated often enough and at a high enough power to prove that the novel effect is real. Without this proof, the claims for heat based on Ni-H2 would be very easy to ignore.  

What he could add is: the vices and failures of PdD, however this does not change the axiom that we must systematically eliminate uncertainties hitting NiH. Real competition for Andrea Rossi is a MUST. More research focused on NiH and other transition metals-H LENR systems. It will come.
b)  If Ed Storms agrees, we will continue our discussion on a friendly and creative basis. Now I just want to ask him about this statement:

 For example, the Piantelli explanation conflicts with basic chemistry and with what is known about LENR.

I have to confess that chemistry is sacro-saint for me too and I take offenses to it
as personal. Plus if what we know about LENR comes only from PdD why other systems cannot be different?

  1. Is it possible to interpret Rossi's e-cat patent claims to allowing deuterium instead of hydrogen being the species used? It seems that this most simple of all substitutions by Rossi in his secret as opposed to apparent method would easily send most replicators down a blind alley. When Rossi's describes 'hydrogen' in his patent claims he uses the name in a generic sense as opposed to the pure isotope of light hydrogen. This of course leaves deuterium enriched 'hydrogen' as being well within the scope of his claims. In law it is always only in court where an inventors true intentions are revealed and narrowly defined. Patent courts have almost always sided with the broadest possible interpretations of intention.

    1. All things are possible but it was always clear from the start that Rossi was relying on Ni loaded with Monatomic H then agitated with heat. This is what Piantelli used and also what Defkalion used. Initially the monatomic H was piped in under pressure.

      If you look closely at the process in the various patents you can see that at an early stage (around 2008) Andrea Rossi introduced a catalyst that allowed internally released H2 to be released and converted to Monatomic H and that initially appeared to be his justification for his 'secret sauce' in his patent (the law says that such a catalyst is not patentable as it is a known process). The other Rossi claim to innovation was use of particular sized 'nano' particles of Ni as a powder. In the early Piantelli patents, Piantelli used an Ni coated rod and piped in Monatomic H.

      So trying to infuse D into Ni is not (AFAICT) viable. However a Pd lattice structure does allow D to be infused and uses an electrolytic technique to do so. The process in PdD AFAICT is that the D gets converted into Tritium releasing excess heat whereas the apparent process in NiH is that the Ni undergoes an isotopic shift (transmutation) taking in the H and releasing excess heat. (there was a time when some believed that Ni was transmuted into copper but AFAICT that is no longer believed).

      So to answer your question, it is not a known process to try to load Ni with D. Because of the obfuscation in Andrea's patents and his descriptions of his reactors, people are able to (and do) imagine anything.

      I am no expert just an observer so what I say may be me misinterpreting the processes and details.

  2. Codswallop, the presumption is clear that when Rossi has spoken or written of hydrogen being 'H' is clearly that this means normal a hydrogen mixture with both light and heavy isotopes. The same is true in 25 years of NiH reports, no one has ever stipulated that they had a source of isotopically pure light 'H' which is much harder to come by than isotopically pure deuterium.

    This is the sort of 'twist of words' that every patent attorney worth the price of a cup of coffee adheres to. As for loading any and all of the various hydrogen loving metals, all such metals love and absorb all isotopes of hydrogen.

    Long before Rossi many researchers were showing the positive effects of nano-dimensional particles in activity related to hydrogen in both chemical and nuclear (including cold fusion) context so clearly nothing Rossi claims in that regard can possibly endure the challenge of prior art.

    These sorts of playing fast and loose with patent wording is the oldest game in the book for those who seek to through up patent smoke to go with their mirrors.
