Little Hot Cat, What Now?

The results of Alexander Parkhomov demonstrate excess heat in the Hot Cat and, what is a huge merit in LENR-land- he made calorimetry possible.  Because in the/for PdD systems it is
quasi-impossible to intensify the heat release, the researchers were forced by hostile circumstances to go on the way to improve measurement of the small quantities of heat, barely measurable. it is kind of a cult for calorimetry in the field. In the simplest formulation we can say that it is a "Flow  calorimetry now" movement and habit- this being the most reliable  method of measuring heat. True?
The Lugano results and Parkhomov's results form now a strong synergy and really soon we can expect that the results of MFMP and  of Brian Ahern (plus some pleasant surprises) will also add a lot to the synergy and to the increasing popularity of LENR.

Parkhomov will say us what he intends to do in the very near future. My guess is based on logic:
both Alexander and I were educated-indoctrinated with teachings of dialectic materialism and this, surprisingly for our born-capitalists colleagues, here is not such a bad thing (as long as it does not refer to humans, just only to scientific facts)It is materialist, realist and pragmatic. A few days ago President Xi has advised the Chinese to boldly use dialectic materialism for Problem Solving! One of the basic theses of that ideology is: "quantitative changes at a certain point give rise to a qualitative leap" therefore very probably Parkhomov will add say other 20 tests made in the same manner- trying to increase heat toward 1400 C and will show repeatedly that the reactor is a generator of copious excess heat; he will improve the cells and will try a few ideas- but all in the limits of short duration and with steam calorimetry preparing for his 64 days test of this this summer..
I want to mention that there is no real problem with steam calorimetry and it can be made in principle perfect by steam sparging as Jed Rothwell preached - the best variant of it being described by me here:

Actually the "gaseous hydrophobia" the idea that steam cannot be measured being awfully and uncontrollably wet is an invention of the LENR denier trolls.

Parkhomov's great qualitative leap will be going toward what I call his 64 days  test during which the evolution of excess heat can be properly observed for long time and 

Let's make some simple, approximate calculations re. the possible mode of using water calorimetry starting from the present set-up. The inner metal vessel has be cooled with water using a mantle, coil- whatever thus that the flow of water is highly turbulent- for good mixing
uniformity of temperature at the outlet
Two basic data:
- power for design- based on the actual result, the results at Lugano obtained at higher temperatures- and the expected improvements - I have chosen 2000Watts;
- the maximum difference outlet temperature minus inlet temperature 65C- for a normal inlet of 10C this means 75 at outlet as maximum, at higher temperatures it is too much bubbling and local overheating

The specific heat of water is 4.2 J/grad; C 2000W- i.e. 2000 J/s leads to 2000/4.2= 476 = (flow, cc x temperature difference(.
This will lead to a flow of 476/65= 7.3cc/s = 0.44 liters/minute= 26.4 liters per hour. It
t seems a feasible value, for smaller heat releases the temperature differences will be smaller e.g. for the initial 300W some 10 degrees. A good pump must assure the constant flow. 
But this is just an example.

A challenge for Andrea Rossi and Industrial Heat

Generosity is a great virtue, I admire it with awe: 
- taking in account that the Hot Cat is scientific; 
- if it will become technological then it will have a completely different structure; 
- it is an other solution not the one used in the 1MW plants or the commercial domestic Warm Cats;
- knowing that the Hot Cat can answer some fundamental questions;
- being worried due the thermofragility of the first generation of Parkhomov reactors

how noble and magnanimous could it be from Rossi and his Industrial Heat allies to offer to Parkhomov and coming testers their high quality and endurance Hot Cats- charged with reactants or even empty?

This could be an example for the future generations of scientists.

If somebody can convey this message to Andrea Rossi...please.

  1. I presume Peter, that in referring to dialectic materialism in science that Karl Marx championed, you mean to point out that this is a doctrine that observes and classifies discoveries according to their characteristics. The opposing doctrine in the west has been one of vulture capitalism where science is classified according to who owns it and pays for spin mastering it's classification.

    In your dialectic materialism world discoveries are not killed by avaricious competitors or professorial guild masters and demons of dogma. The DM discoveries are at least recognized and chronicled for what they are and not censored from existence.

    In the west there are endless stories and examples of great scientific advances being suppressed or even gathered up and destroyed to prevent innovation from threatening the cash flow of the competition and to hell with the benefits to mankind.

    I don't mean to suggest that behind the skirts of Karl Marx there was/is no ruthless destruction of discoveries but at least it seems that there has been less. In some incredibly bad examples the dialectic materialism path turned out to be a resoundingly dead ends as the Lysenko's follies proved.

    This ide of quantitative leaps from quantitative accumulation is from before and beyond Marx- and is fundamental.It is interesting that yu connect it with the fate of important discoveries and inventions. Anyway in the capitalist system there is fight of opposites and the better greed usually wins, in the communist system the opposition was destroyed and eventually the whole system of systems has collapsed- and that is good, in 1989 life was unbearable here.If you wish we can continue this discussion as personal.

Considering that Andrea Rossi's background shows that he researched hydrogen embrittlement (A contribution to the surface analysis and characterisation of HVOF coatings for petrochemical application ... ) with a focus on NIAl I believe that this is where he might have came across his initial observation of excess heat. That being said, I would love to hear your opinion on Robert Vancina's Hope Cell idea..........

    The phenomenon of hydrogen embrittlement results from the formation of interstitial hydrides. Interstitial hydrides most commonly exist within metals or alloys more closely resembling common alloys. In such hydrides, hydrogen can exist as either atomic or diatomic entity. Mechanical or thermal processing, such as bending, striking, or annealing may cause the hydrogen to precipitate out of solution, by degassing. These systems are usually non-stoichiometric, with variable amounts of hydrogen atoms in the lattice. Hydrides of this type forms according to either one of two main mechanisms. The first mechanism involves the adsorption of dihydrogen, succeeded by the cleaving of the H-H bond, the delocalization of the hydrogen’s electrons, and finally, the diffusion of the protons into the metal lattice. The other main mechanism involves the electrolytic reduction of ionised hydrogen on the surface of the metal lattice, also followed by the diffusion of the protons into the lattice. The second mechanism is responsible for the observed temporary volume expansion of certain electrodes used in electrolytic experiments.

    Those mechanisms does not have any typical side effects of an atomic reaction, supported by strong evidence of lattice transmutation through spectrometry readings, and can’t be considered as such.

    Mechanism initiated through plasma treatment of hydrogen based cluster in presence of metal hydride lattice would present new moment in hydrogen embrittlement accompanied with exothermic reaction.

    Plasma is a highly – density source of energy, which covering process enthalpy and provide optimal temperature range to eliminate kinetic limitations of hydrogen isolation.

    Low electrical conductivity of the medium has been converted in to high conductivity physical properties through plasma change of the state of the matter.

    Double Layer plasma mechanism isolate an unstable and highly reactive elementary atomic hydrogen H in cluster, whose bond with other elements has been broken. Exposed atomic hydrogen proton will violently react with surrounding fast moving metal hydride lattice electron and forming additional neutron through isolated but violent exothermic reaction.

    This additional exothermic reaction – highly energized emission, results in elevated atomic hydrogen isolation by syncing into molecular dipole frequency with resonating effect, where excessive breakage of surrounding cluster bonds is maintained in a run-off process. Breaking one bond, through exposing hydrogen medium cluster to excess heat, bends and weakens bonds around, and process is repeated in surrounding area of metal hydride lattice.

    Mechanism eventually results in forming of H2 Deuterium, which is one neutron heavier, and sheds excess binding energy to the lattice through beta decay, further resulting in nano-dimensional isolated transmutation of lattice, with spectrometry detection of numerous new elements.

    Plasma electromagnetic excitement allows process to continue with the hydrogen proton capture in lattice. Each successive cascade and decay emit significant amount of excess heat energy and result in further isolated metal hydride surface lattice transmutation through this weak nuclear force
