MOTTO

Once you eliminate everything except the impossibilities, the case will go toward the big lie that favors you. (Sherlock Holmes)

DAILY NOTES

The revelation of the essence of the ERV Report has created a "deny or die" situation for the IH Party. The results are so good that cannot killed on basis of invented instrumental errors errors or misunderstood parameters. What was OK, sometimes stellar (we see it was indeed!) must now converted in total, conspirational fraud.

LENR IN CONTEXT-1

Certainty in complex scientific research an unachievable goal
Date:February 1, 2017
Source:University of Toronto
Summary:
A study on uncertainty in research could shed light on anomalies that arose in early attempts to discover the Higgs boson, and even how polls failed to predict the election of Donald Trump. The study suggests that research in some of the more complex scientific disciplines, such as medicine or particle physics, often doesn't eliminate uncertainties to the extent we might expect, due to a tendency to under-estimate the chance of significant abnormalities in results.

  1. Peter - one of the reasons I do comment on your blog, despite knowing that you believe Rossi has the real deal, is that I would really like to see a successful LENR system bring low-cost and safe power to the world. In order for that to happen, it makes sense for people to concentrate on trying to replicate ideas that have been shown to work and to drop those ideas which are shown to not work.

For this reason, increased precision and accuracy on Parkhomov's experiments are worth doing until it's pretty certain one way or the other that it works or it doesn't. Alan Smith's work is thus a step forward; if he gets excess energy we'll be happy, and if he doesn't we'll know what doesn't work. It doesn't matter than we don't have a good theory yet, since that will come once there is a replicable experiment. Or of course maybe someone will get a good theory and run an experiment based on their idea, and it'll work.

Where I attack Rossi, it's simply because the available data cannot be true. Pweet has put in some very good points on this, which also need to be answered (and haven't been). As such, the efforts put in to working out a theory based on Rossi's data are wasted time and money, which are both limited resources in the LENR world. If those resources are diverted into paths that don't work by inflated and false data, that means it will take longer before the correct way to do it is found.

If you really want LENR to happen, following Rossi is the wrong way, and such following is thus counterproductive. Ed Storms is probably not completely right (since otherwise he'd have more experimental successes) but he's got logical and experimental reasons for saying what he does, and is likely largely right. It's a much better basis for progress. I'd hope Ed would agree here, and I'm sure he's still pondering the puzzle-pieces he has and trying different ideas.

Axil is great at ferreting out odd theories that might just be crazy enough to be true, though in the last half-dozen years I've been reading his ideas he's had quite a few sure-fire explanations for the reasons that didn't pan out. I applaud him for this, since he's chucking ideas at the wall and seeing what sticks, and this sort of creative thinking is what is needed. Sadly, he's also being diverted by Rossi's claims so he's working on false data. I'd like to convince him to reconsider his stance on Rossi's data, and that steam heat doesn't just disappear without trace. We should know how steam heat works by now, after all.

Piantelli's data is probably good, Brillouin's data is probably good, and maybe the Thermacore meltdown will be replicated using the correct version of Nickel. There is hope that we will find a real LENR+. Unfortunately, it looks like Rossi's version of it is vaporware and empty claims. The legal process seems a waste of money and I'm not too worried about it, since the data of the scientific side is pretty conclusive.

I would hope that IH are still convinced of the reality of LENR and will continue to fund research. I see IH as poker-players, not chess players, and they called Rossi's bluff.

    1. Speaking about crazy ideas:

Its ironic, but LENR produced the biggest disaster in the history of nuclear energy: chernobyl. A short in one of the generators at that reactor produced two huge electrical discharges that in turn produced a huge muons flux that when added to the neutron flux in the #4 reactor, put that reactor into a supercritical state. Muons and transuranic elements don't mix.

Rossi shielded his early reactors with lead but it must have been confusing to him that the more lead that he used, the more radiation that he saw. He does not use any shielding now and with his latest unshielded reactor, all the radiation when away.

Nobody has asked Rossi why he does not use radiation shielding anymore.

      See for background:

    2. Why do you think he no longer uses shielding??? The last mention of shielding by him was that he used tungsten. And IMO, it is that use of tungsten shielding that accounts for the difference between Rossi and all the replicators, who have shown far lower "COP" than Rossi. I think that once the NAE (whatever it turns out to be) is started in nickel, that it spreads to the tungsten, and the bulk of LENR actually happens on or in the tungsten.

    Dear Dr Andrea Rossi:
Did you learn anything new from the last break of the QuarkX?
    Thanks if you can answer,
    Britt

Yes, and we got also an important improvement, since now, due to a better managemant of the heat, we do not need an intermittent operation.
    Warm Regards,

    Dear Andrea,
I am very much impressed of the performance of the 1 MW plant. I know you are not allowed to say anything about this, but I wonder why you have not started the full speed production of these plants, as they are really a goldmine. Instead you are developing a QuarkX, which has probably even more potential, but may require also much more time to get it into production. Can you please give us some insight of what moves you in this?
Thank you for answering our questions.
    Kind regards, Gerard
