"How a Remote Town in Romania Has Become Cybercrime Central":
I have lived in this town from 1967 to 1980 but I couldn’t guess that it will become so famous. Or famous in this way. When I have arrived there Ramnicu Valcea was a rather traditional small Romanian town where it doesn't happen much. Then the Govora and OLTCHIM chemical works where built and the live become much diversified, socialist style.
Thanks Athena, the goddess of technology, the chemical processes have nothing to do with politics- the reactions which take place in the reactors where vinyl chloride is transformed in the very versatile and useful polymer called PVC- are the same in Hitler's Germany (where it was invented aiming to replace rubber not coming more from the British colonies)
in any capitalist country and in Ceausescu's Romania where I lived then.
I was the leader of the PVC research lab at OLTCHIM (1970-1980) a wonderful opportunity to make some discoveries- and to enjoy the I-ness of technology. Cahllenges, problems, errors, decisions, disillusions, victories, new problems...
And I knew a lot of personalities from which I have learned things that belong to my ego-out; in my next message I will speak about one of them.
