 DAILY NOTES

 I  have a great, sad long-time  experience with political demagogues, dictators, populists who had been injecting huge quantities of madness, social schizophrenia, toxic lies and simple misery in the everyday lives of the authoritarian societies. Just think about the last great one and understand the tsunami of Schadenfreude generated by his punishment I think you all know my rather sadistic meta-paper I handed to Martin Fleischmann at ICCF-2- Como.

Unfortunately there are dangerous demagogues in science too and Cold Fusion LENR was and is one of their preferred targets due to its vulnerability, newness and - what's a radical euphemism to the banned (here) word "anomalous nature? - It is totally unexpected arrival. in a bad place and improper, too early time. Cold Fusion was repeatedly sacrificed on the altar of an idealistic and idealized Nuclear Physics claiming to be a complete, almost finished perfect science. Probably you have observed the many papers given at LENR IN CONTEXT-1 that show there is a plethora of unfinished, open problems in nuclear physics and you could also read here-- for example about the bright ideas of Leonid Urutskoev.  Nuclear Physics is still far from the God-like perfection and sacrificed scientific ideas.
Thanks to many heroic scientists LENR has survived and in 2011 it has appeared an enhanced form of LENR also with a very unexpected history and evolution. In the name of diverse existent and nonexistent ideals it was also attacked all the time so to its pains of growing quite natural, there were added many troubles and problems. However this LENR+ has also survived and an industrial size plant of 1MW   capacity has worked for almost a year continuously.  However just now as you well know the actual results obtained are object of a legal dispute Rossi contra  Industrial Heat.
I wrote a lot about this but now the dispute entered a new stage.
Rossi says the results were excellent COP 50-60, however IH suddenly denies this
and does not want to pay some 89 millions US$.
The present stage while the parts are waiting fir the trial- IH continues a campaign against Rossi and tries to demonstrate that the plant was good for nothing. Very unexpected e.g. after this interview given by Tom Darde IH's CEO after the first report of the ERV in 2015:

Here he still does not realized the disastrous results or total lack of them?
As far as I knew the plant was declare unproductive only when Rossi wanted his money and started the trial. But now it is a trend to change this.

 One of our colleagues here who seems to have excellent connection with IH now reveals now says that he knew from them - from months ago- that the !MW plant has never, ever produced a single Watt of excess heat!  He has not said when exactly he got this info, after the 1-st, the 2-nd 3-rd or the final ERV report and it was seemingly a verbal communication- recorded or not. Will there appear a group of similar witnesses , testimonial? What is stated is radical- zero excess heat ll the time!
The 4 reports of the ERV containing - it is said some 12,6000,00 data MUST be ignore therefore the ERV himself is annihilated by a nasty and illogical insult which I will not reproduce- I could not say such things even about my worst enemy. He, the ERV,  was paid by IH. Not everything is permitted even in wartime. I would not bet a farthing on IH's scenario, it lacks plausibility.

 Asked how he defends himself against these attacks, Andrea Rossi gives a short answer:

I have set 'inventor' in brackets, because as every important inventor, Marconi was first studying for example the theoretical and experimental work of Heinrich Hertz and others.

As the short history of Marconi's invention at Wikipedia shows, even if it is such an important and disruptive invention like the long-distance radio transmission, the invention itself is worth nothing! 

It needs dozens of other factors, the ability, possibility and freedom of research, a rich family, mental supporters, financial supporters, a good friend, an unexpected helper, a ready market, a catastrophe like the sinking of the Titanic, the personal ability to cope with market rules and so on, and last but not least a lot of luck, to enter the market with a product.

There are good cults and bad cults in LENR.
The good cults are cults of aims while the bad ones are cults of means. 
Despite some opposing opinions there never was a real cult of personality in LENR, nobody was considered really infallible.negative cults- calorimetry, palladium, scientific method, 

 I could (and actually had, in other forms) write volumes about this so I will give just a bit more than a first list of cults.

 POSITIVE LENR CULTS

 Cult of Technology

 LENR is the new superior energy source of the Mankind- this is its definite aim. It is also new revolutionary science, on more levels, multi- and trans-disciplinary and the reality is that technology is more than applied science. In the present and coming LENR history engineering has the lead and scientific discoveries supply the Light.
Perhaps the future will confirm my guess the more adequate name is Cult of Technologies.

 Cult of Extension

 LENR is by birth a conqueror- it will look very impressive when it will attain all the limits of its many parameters - some of them being actionable.
I now well understand the message of Chris Tinsley in my dream (yesterday)- why LENR-ist are crowded on a small arena when a great one has to be used. Yes, it is still a start and we are focused, passionately on PdD and slowly accepting NiH not considering that even if we define LENR core as "useful energy from metal hydrogen deep interaction" many transition metals from Titanium to Tungsten, their alloys and intermetallic compounds will open new and new possibilities. The arena will be great indeed. Accepted facts and features will be: complexity, diversity, dynamicity, metamorphosis

Cult of Progress

 For 22 years with the LENR genie captive in its electrolytic bottle, the progress in thefield was- and is in that area- incremental- a living system but not able to grow, develop, improve. It is sad, but it is already history that an outlier, not a leading member of the LENR community took the initiative to push LENR toward accelerated, genuine progress. (please read paper 1) at News.

 Cult of Newness

 I think we have to accept with courage and responsibility the fact that LENR is new, unexpected science and a novel form of technology (more) and what we know is so small compared to what we still have to discover. LENR does not violate any old Law of Nature but in part obeys other new Laws of Nature still waiting to be discovered. if you believe in a LENR aided energy future never call it or its heat- anomalous- it's auto destructive and a bit even suicidal.

 Cult of Quality

 This refers to the work, functionality of the generators- many generations of generators will come- working reliably, total ssm after start is a must, no noise, no pollution, total lack of ionizing radiations very,very discreetly nuclear energy produced.
Mot of them producing high currency energy that is electric not thermal. An ecological feast. Quality includes effectiveness and efficiency, durability and aesthetics- yes we will prefer beautiful E-Cats.

 Cult of Scale Up

 This is, must be   a fast cult, because without it there will be no advancement in the field. Size matters. Small, inaudible, sporadic, evanescent signals belong to the past we need massive, controllable well manageable strong effects as heat release. There is no small but beautiful when it is about energy, no milliwatts -only in the lab,. We need mentalities and habits of problem solvers. Technology first!
NEGATIVE LENR CULTS

 Cult of calorimetry

 The determinant excess release from the Fleischmann-Pons Effect and cells is inherently weak, sporadic and does not last much. It is a metrology ordeal to measureit, therefore all successful pioneers in Cold fusion were or had become excl lent first class calorimetrists. More efforts and creative energy was spent on improving calorimetry than on enhancing the heat effect or even more a problem - to achieve really good reproducibility of the FP effect. Or are these impossible tasks, as I was forced to believe by facts?

 I am preparing a kind of Open Letter about this over-discussed by me, but never answered subject so now I will cite only a wise advice received from a friend who (!) shares my opinion.

 Cult of the Scientific method at any price

 The Scientific Method is wonderful when it can be applied well- it is a ialog between the scientist and Mother Nature. If She answers clearly, it works, if she whispers stutters or has moments of absence- the Method needs help. Technology is always prepared to add to the Scientific Method.

 My anti-hypertensive drugs (ENAP, TERTENSIVE) have helped me to survive beyond expectations but their side effect is permanent nightmares. I must solve impossible problems in the most irrealistic environments.  The former night's remarkable dream is different- actually it was a friendly dream. it was 1995 aagin and I was discussing with my regretted British friend Chris Tinsley in Kishinev Moldova in a small restaurant. Chris has told inter ali about his love and enthusiasm for soccer and to my horror this included in a way a lot of tolerance toward violence around sport -then in fast ascension- everybody sees and knows a lot about it. For me educated in the spirit of fairness and amateurism in sport  My father was a great athlete and coach-he has discovered this great champion too:  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iolanda_Bala%C8%99. The spirit of Paavo Nurmi was present in our discussions about sport at home.
OK times changes and Chris was so emotional when saying "we Englishmen like soo much to fight!"
But now, in my dream  he came with a puzzling statement:

 "Peter, you and our still active good chaps are all ignoring the basic teaching of soccer- doing great harm to yourself and to Cold Fusion, you dormant ones! Why the...do you continue to play on a 10 meters by 10 meters small arena where you can barely move- when a normal soccer arena is at least 64 meters wide and 110 meters long - 70-80 times greater as surface- where you have enough space to run and to attack? If continue to think small, be small, move small, you will never learn, enjoy and master soccer, my friends with no space!

 I do not believe in any superstition but I know dreams are connected to our subconscious. OK, however my dear Chris I don't understand what are you alluding to, what are you suggesting? What small, what great arena, what large spaces?

c) There are no limits in the demonization of Andrea Rossi- campaign

 I watched a two hour documentary on the Branch Davidians in Waco Texas and was stunned by the parallels to the Rossi drama.
David Koresh was a self-styled Messiah and he had dozens of loyal followers.

He lied every day of the 51 day standoff. He finally took all the loyal followers with him and inspired a generation of conspiracy dupes> They believe that the government conspired against an admirable character. The Waco incident inspired Timothy McVeigh to bomd the federal building in Oklahoma.

Similarly, Rossi's followers blindly follow his trials and tribulations. Let us hope that this charismatic leader (Rossi) is not followed by another McVeigh. 

 A rational answer came immediate from Lennsart Thornros:

 Brian, this is not a sect, Rossi's claim is Rossi's claims. I think most people and my self included think that he has something. It is hard to understand what, I give you that. However, it is many more factors that point that way,that he has something rather than he is a scam artist. I understand why he does not show exactly what he can do. It is a combination of poor communication and his financial interest (keeping the secret so he for sure has a time advantage when it can be commercialized). I just do not see any reason to be negative to Rossi. If he does not in one way or the other produce proof he will lose all credibility. I talk about months. If he does not then, we who believe he has it, will begin to change our mind and look for another solution. No, shame in being wrong and make a mistake. However, if I were as critical as you are comparing him to David Koresh, it will be rather humiliating to change stand. Not in a scientific way but the many very insulting (and uncalled for) attacks on Rossi's persona, must be hard to abandon and keep your integrity. 
I can guarantee that I will not commit suicide if Rossi fails. I would be very disappointed in him, but that is where it stops.

 My dear Friends,

 Today we will focus on the differences between passive and active approach to the basic LENR problems. Please take in account that the boarders between these are somewhat fluid, consider that this dichotomy is partially superposed with others but not coincidental with them- as scientific vs technological, theoretical vs practical, stagnant vs progressive, tradition vs change, discovery vs invention...

a) Andrea Rossi answers to this question:

 Q: What has determined you to choose an active approach-radical change- invention to build your generators?

 A: My philosophical studies,. I made my doctorate upon Husserls phenomenology based on the epoché. I came from those studies in the work world with that attitude. I have chosen the energy field, because those were times of energy crisis and I have chosen  the LENR field exactly because everybody was saying it is impossible. If they say that based on science as it is aprioristically accepted, LENR's are impossible, means they are possible if I make an epoché on what is known already.
Why I tried other ways instead of the PdD2O electrolysis? Because tried it and it did not work. Besides, I had a strong experience of the use of Ni in my fuel from wastes tech. 

b) Uwe Doms about the LENR Expert Forum and about Change Management

 I was working today setting up the LENR Expert Forum and formulate the topics for the different discussion areas it comes to my mind, that what really is missing developing the LENR topic is a kind of change management.
 
The scientist on the one hand side and the commentators/journalists on the other have over the last two decades developed a kind of trench warfare mentality. A lot of scientists that have interest in LENR/Cold Fusion are very much afraid to lose reputation if they came out of their trench and this is for good reason, because on the other side are the journalist, commentators and the rest of the scientific crowd, and most of them are not interested in scientific evidence or 'truth' (whatever that means), they have discovered that bulling LENR/Cold Fusion is the story that sells.

Both sides have created a very large no man's land between their trench lines and at the end of the day everybody is happy having survived without casujalities. Now something very interesting happened. While the trench war continues unexpected an fearless Andrea Rossi suddenly walked in the middle of the no man's land and placed directly in the middle his Ecat device. Now you might as sapient man expect there will be a truce to have a closer look at this device, at least temporarily, but no, the war between the two sides unchanged continues and not only that, both trenches even find a new common target and that is the intruder in 'their' no man's land.

This has nothing to do with science this is pure psychology.

I have in my career conducted and organized a merger (mergers tend to end up in trench wars) and used a brilliant source of information http://www.umsetzungsberatung.de/change-management/change-management.php .I think that beside the scientific, economic, environmental and social aspects of LENR, we additional have to analyze and work on the psychological aspects.

 You are right, dear Uwe- however you can find appeals to  the use of change management in my blog too. Not very effective - it is a VUCA state in the field plus what you describe so well. The German language site you gave has indeed a high idea density but there are excellent change management papers in English to for example at MIT Harvard Business Review etc. etc.

 Asked about the Soul of the Rossi Effect, Andrea Rossi says:

 " The soul of the Rossi Effect: the search of a man of the justification of the existence God gave him to do something worth a life."

 It s interesting how my exchange with Freeman Dyson repeats, I think identically however on a more secular basis- Human Duties imposed by the uniqueness of a life.
Even small improvements of the world are of value- see what I wrote about definition, the soul of Ego Out.

 a) Answering to a lost comment of Felix Rends.

  Felix has written this comment re the Babel Tower in LENR idea, I got it as e-mail but it is not at the comments. I have told you that I had more problems with Blogger.

 I notice for myself that I can express myself much better and more differentiated and more specific in my mother tongue German as in English. Even if I have luck to be a proficient user (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, CEFR) with fairly good skills, often just one word is missing that has a powerful meaning in my own language, but has no real counterpart in the foreign language, so that I am forced to paraphrase and transliterate, which diluted the meaning and makes it difficult to be exact and precise. Additionally in German the very popular nested sentences and the difficult grammar are making it very difficult for translation programs, if not impossible, to translate correct. The sense may be visible, but even this is not guaranteed with complex content.

I think there is always a lost potential and in the case of LENR it leads to an imbalance, not only in the discussion culture, but also in the spread of information for the economy. 

I have experienced it myself as consultant of a German company, in which actually only Germans are working. The fear in the future not being able to compete with the world market leads the executive level of the management to the absurd idea to hold internal meetings in English. There something went completely wrong, because language is more than just information exchange, language is power and if I do not have the control over the language you use, then you will be ruled by those which are the proficient. That is generally the case, but it can (right at this moment) perfectly be observed at the LENR Forum and other communities, which are dedicated to the LENR topic.

 Dear Felix 

 My experience is different, I spent my childhood years in Timisoara (Temeswar) in a clearly tetra-lingvistic environment; at home and with Feri and Gyuri we spoke Hungarian, with Doru and Puiu Romanian, with Sandy and Horst-  German witth Bato, Batice and Vladimir -Serbian. Empirical learning but we enjoyed it. Then after the war we started to learn intensively Russian at the school. Liked it and later it was of enormous benefit for my professional career the Russian books being very good and they also translated a lot. I started to learn English at home very early. My mother had a fine collection of French, German and English books - however when my father was arrested from no known reasons we had to sell a great part of our library in order to survive. To also mention Italian learnt mainly from movies and from opera.
 I have concluded soon that each language has something very specific a soul- difficult to define but easy to grasp when you are spending a few days in a linguistic environment.
As regarding English I simply adore the language for its richness, flexibility, its many synonyms- it is a wonderful .I am constantly trying to learn, collecting words (see Wordsmith for example), idioms, stereotypes, quotations short stories, equivalating proverbs. etc.

  OK, it seems the sympathy is not exactly mutual I get many critics for my bad English and generous offers of help. All I can hope is that my messages are understandable.
Recently on a Facebook page for the E-cat a gentleman called Renzo Barbieri has said than my blog is unreadable,any sense is lost in translation. 
I find it is an interesting coincidence that Renzo ia from Voghera a town where I had
solved a strange management problem years ago.

 DOUG MARKER"S ANALYSIS
LENR  AND NEED FOR MORE RESEARCHERS SUCH AS me356.

Rossi no matter what people may think, has triggered an enormous amount of interest worldwide, among people who would otherwise not know of LENR or its potential.  There are now far too many smart and honest people who have done enough due diligence to conclude personally that LENR is and has been real for a long time - the more multidisciplinary types of researchers and inventors that take up the interest, the faster it will be exploited and understood.
The recent stories about a researcher who posts with the id 'me356', offer the very inspiration we need in LENR. His work and his approach and also his willingness to share what he sees, is compelling. (see separate links to stories about me356 in EGO OUT)

The trend in Science in the past few decades has been for graduates of physics and science to become highly  specialized. This in part is driven by the explosion of new scientific work coming from the invention of the maser & laser. Particularly in the field called 'Photonics'.

The below information is a very good example of how science is directing new talent into teams with specialist skills.  This is now what LENR needs, and may soon get, once the anti LENR propagandists can be put rightly in their place which is to recognize them as dominantly propagandists with agendas.

The advances in LENR require multidisciplinary expertise from Physics (nano, quantum, plasmonics & advanced materials ), Chemistry and Engineering etc:, plus smart people with great drive, intuition and curiosity.  They are emerging in growing numbers but we need a lot more.

The Laser as an example of focusing graduates in specialized fields:

Just the laser alone has reshaped the scientific world tremendously in recent years as its use intrudes into so many areas of science and life from communications, entertainment (music and visual), laser printing, laser/polymer manufacturing etc: etc:. More recently are the discoveries in the areas of OAM (Orbital & Angular Momentum)  of light are stunning.  (see these links

The research in this 'Photonics' field of research and development is 'racing' ahead and promises yet more 'quantum leap's in technology from use in quantum computers, use in storing petabytes of data on a device not much larger than a DVD, massive increases in bandwidth and efficiency of fibre optics and even how light is harnessed and analyzed from space for achieving greater Astrophysical research of distant stars. In addition there are already demonstration videos of scientists using low watt laser 'tweezers' to manipulate small micron size particles (i.e. 4 microns big) on glass slides. There are  other demos that use angular momentum of a laser beam to drive microscopic parts such as tiny wheels and pumps. These are working in labs today. The potential from these lines of research is wide open.
